Transportation and Safety
From the Airport to the City
Buenos Aires has two airports:
- Ezeiza International Airport (EZE): the main international airport, located about 30 km from downtown Buenos Aires.
- Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP): serves mainly domestic and regional flights and is located within the city.
There is no efficient public transportation from Ezeiza to the city center. We recommend using Uber or Cabify, or booking a prepaid taxi at one of the official taxi desks inside the airport terminal.
Do not accept rides from drivers who approach you inside the terminal. We also do not recommend using the black-and-yellow street taxis from the airport.
From the City to the University
The conference will take place at Ciudad Universitaria, in Room 1401 of the Cero+Infinito Building.
The following bus lines stop at Ciudad Universitaria:
28, 33, 34, 37, 42, 45, 107, 160, and 166.
It is also possible to get there by train, although this is generally less convenient.
To use public transportation (buses, subway, and trains), you will need a SUBE card, which can be purchased at most subway stations and other authorized sales points. Alternatively, buses and the subway also accept contactless debit and credit cards.
For getting around the city, Uber and Cabify are safe, reliable, and reasonably priced options.
Safety
Buenos Aires is generally a safe city by Latin American standards, although visitors should take the same precautions they would in any large metropolitan area.
Please keep an eye on your valuables, especially your passport, mobile phone, and laptop. In general, you do not need to carry your passport while moving around the city; a photocopy or digital copy is usually sufficient. You should also keep an eye on your belongings while on the University campus.
Debit and credit cards are widely accepted (except in most black-and-yellow taxis). If you need to exchange currency, use only authorized exchange offices or one of the many Western Union branches throughout the city.
If you plan to visit La Boca, stay within the main tourist area and avoid visiting after dark.
